Dr. Shawn Smallwood

K. Shawn Smallwood earned is Ph.D. in Ecology at the University of California, Davis, where he also performed 4 years of post-graduate studies on interactions between wildlife and agriculture. He has authored nearly 200 papers and reports, including 49 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and books, and he serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Wildlife Management. Dr. Smallwood performed original research on the density and distribution of animal species, habitat restoration and the habitat concept, the ecology of biological invasions, endangered species issues, wildlife monitoring, sampling and analytical methods, wildlife interactions with human management systems, and on the assessment of environmental impacts of human activities. He senior-authored two large reports of research performed on bird collisions with wind turbines in the Altamont Pass, and he has been investigating bird fatalities caused by electrocutions and line strikes along electric distribution lines throughout California. Most of his research and consulting has been directed toward reducing or minimizing problems arising between wildlife and human activities.
